General Election - that brought the Spring

The summer or Mr Power

Faded away as destined to be,

Into the autumn, on the eighth of January,

But it was still a vague sign for the power,

To follow the primrose path to ruin.

The hundred days of rule, passed as the winter,

Being the prelude to the General Election,

That brought in the Spring!

Not all leaders qualify to be

True national leaders, but a few to cherish,

And the others to perish, as bogus

But our motherland has still been fortunate

In having leaders like Mahathir and Mandela

The exemplary for power, that's of the people,

By the people and for the people,

No country in the world map

Looks like ours, in shape and size.

How beautiful the blessed Pearl

That lies dazzling in the Indian Ocean!

The pride of this nation is to be

The proud leaders, whose far-sighted vision

And mission stand for good governance

Now this wonderland is, to step in!

Ven. Maduluwawe Sobitha Thera,

A rare gem of a priest and his divine part

In building the nation will never depart

From the mind of the nation, indeed!

The time-filtered leader, Ranil Wickremesinghe,

Being a symbol of a great statesmanship,

With his passion and patience for the fore-sighted vision

Of politics, that finally came to fruition.

Simpler in power, nobler in quality,

Benefactor in sharing power with the people

Maithripala Sirisena stood even stronger in courage

For the mega fight against MR, winning to be

The heavy-weight champion of national politics!

Rajitha Senaratne, Patali Champika Ranawaka,

Ven Athuraliye Rathana Thera and a few others to quote,

In the historic crusade, for the cause of good governance.

The entrance of Madam CBK was indeed a welcome boost,

Fulfilling her own divine part, as a timely saviour.

New culture for election that spread

The nation's glory the world over,

Because of the smooth polling nation wide

That was indeed a testament to the rare skill

And dedication of Mahinda Deshapriya,

Whose great services to the nation,

In turbulent times of national politics,

Naturally invite any seat of learning to assess,

And to honour and confer a Ph.d upon him !
