Kandy Municipality conducts major sports drive today

The Playgrounds Department of the Kandy Municipality has organized a series of sports activities in connection with the Local Government Week where cricket, table tennis and soccer coaching camps along with indoor games for the members of the Community Centres will be held today.

These activities will be held under the direction of the Chief Playgrounds Instructors J.A.V.K.Shanthasiri and G.G.Dharmaratne.

A cricket coaching camp will be conducted by Malcolm Perera, former Director of Coaching of Sri Lanka Cricket assisted by Playground Instructors Duncan Arnolda and B.P.K. Ranasinghe at the Gatembe Municipal Playground from 8.30 a.m to 12 noon for junior cricketers both girls and boys.

The soccer coaching camp by former playground Instructors S.A.Weerasinghe, Gamini Silva and the present instructors W.A. Priyantha and Sunanda Mediwake will be held at Edmond Silva Playground at Deiyannewela from 8.30 a.m to 12 noon for junior soccer players of Kandy. The Indoor games and table tennis tournament will be held at E.L.Senanayake Children's Library Auditorium conducted by playground Instructors S.P.G.Vithanage, W.A.Sunil, B.P.K.Ranasinghe and Amitha Wijeratne.

Prize distribution will be held on the same day after the tournaments with the Kandy Mayor Mahen Ratwatte as chief guest.

Sena Dissanayake, Deputy Mayor, Chandana Tennakoon, Municipal Commissioner, Deepani Piyadasa, Deputy Commissioner are expected to participate on this occasion.
