Concert by JSC on Sept 27
The Junior Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Dushyanthi Perera,
will be giving its annual concert on September 27. This event represents
the culmination of months of hard work on the part of a dedicated group
of young players, and will take place at the auditorium of the Sri Lanka
Institute of Tourism.
The JSO will be presenting a challenging and varied programme, that
will highlight their progress in terms of orchestral ensemble playing,
as well as in interpretation of musical style and period.
Programme highlights include the first movement of Mozart's Jupiter
symphony-a stylistically and technically demanding work-and the last
movement of Beethoven's iconic 5th symphony, a work no less demanding,
and requiring much stamina in addition. Also on the programme is the
first orchestral suite from Bizet's well-loved Carmen.
Under the guidance of Dushy Perera, the young musicians of the JSO
have been receiving a grounding in the art of playing the classical
masters, while also enjoying the works of Romantic composers.
The JSO has been generously supported over the last several years by
the Embassy of Norway and Concerts Norway. The SOSL gratefully
acknowledges their support in the Orchestra's endeavours, not only in
outreach programmes, but also in uplifting standards and educating young
musicians in Sri Lanka. |
