"The business world is increasingly using internet-based resources keeping with global trends. Internet use in Sri Lanka has increased considerably. There is also an increase in the use of hand-held devices for surfing the web, for work and for leisure.

This means that the risk of cyber-threats looms large and it's critical for all of us to know how to protect ourselves from online threats," said Sangakkara following his appointment as Brand Ambassador at the Jaic Hilton on Wednesday.

Sales and Marketing Director for Asia Pacific at ESET, Parvinder Walia said, "We are indeed thrilled to appoint Sangakkara as our brand ambassador. He is not only a world-renowned cricketer but also a legend who has displayed outstanding skills, on and off the field. He has worn his credentials well and has always remained firmly grounded."

"ESET believes the appointment comes at the right time when there is considerable interest generated on the importance of cyber security in Sri Lanka," he said.

"The biggest challenge in cyber security is building awareness regarding the threats that exist online, educating consumer about online safety best practices, and reminding them to stay vigilant.

With Sangakkara as our brand Ambassador, we look forward to building greater awareness of cyber security issues and make the online world safer," Walia said.

ESET provides country specific cyber security coverage and also provides alerts on threats specific to Sri Lanka, ensuring that businesses and home computer users can stay safe from online threats, he said.

ESET products are distributed by DCS International (Pvt) Limited in Sri Lanka, since 2010 and have established a considerable presence in the corporate and retail world.
