South Africa down Scotland
South Africa edged closer to securing a quarter final berth as they
beat Scotland 34-16 in a somewhat drab display of rugby at the World Cup
yesterday.
After leading 13-3 at half time the South Africans had little worry
as they capitalised on some poor ball-handling by Scotland to score two
more tries to add to three penalties put over by Pollard that swelled
the score.
The closest Scotland came to applying the pressure on the South
Africans was when they made it 20-13 early in the second half.
But three penalties from Pollard always ensured the South Africans
were well secured until winger Bryan Habana squeezed his way through a
tired Scotland to carry the ball over the line and put the result firmly
in favour of his team. |
