Local delegation attends CILT International Convention
The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) held its
International Convention in Dubai from September 13-15.
Over 250 delegates from 33 member countries were present. This year's
theme was 'Stronger Together: Global Strategies for Success in Logistics
and Transport'. CILT conducts its annual convention in a member country
in rotation every year.
Sri Lanka hosted the Convention in June 2013 after it gained
Territorial Status. The The 11-member CILT Sri Lanka delegation led by
its Chairman Niral Kadawatharatchie included office-bearers and senior
members.
The convention started with the Women in Logistics and Transport (WiLAT)
forum parallel to the Young Professionals Forum (YPF).
WiLAT Sri Lanka was represented by Chairperson Gayani de Alwis,
Regional Coordinator South Asia, Namalie Siyambalapitiya, Vice
Chairperson Niroza Gazzali and ExCo member Amra Zareer.
Three of WiLAT Sri Lanka initiatives were adopted by the global WiLAT
Forum.YPF Sri Lanka was represented by YPF South Asia Coordinator
Nishantha Fernando.
Immediate Past International President and Global Adviser, WiLAT, Dr
Dorothy Chan was awarded the Honorary Fellowship for her yeomen service
to CILT at the International Management Council (IMC) meeting.
The IMC, an assembly held the during the convention, recognizes and
felicitates individuals who have contributed to the Institute in
formulating strategies and maintaining the decorum of the institute. At
the last year's international convention in Melacca, International Vice
President Saliya Senanayaka was awarded the Pegasus award. The next
International Convention will be held in Montreal, Canada in September
2016.
