Broadband connectivity: SL ranked 47

Sri Lanka has been ranked 47 among top 50 countries with broadband facilities, according to a recently released report – Akamai - ‘State of Internet’ 2Q (SOTI). Sri Lanka has outperformed Australia, India, Malaysia and China.

Despite progress, Malaysia lags behind Sri Lanka and Thailand in average internet speeds over the second quarter this year, as Asian countries set global benchmarks in the 2015 State of the Internet (SOTI) second quarter report.

The report, released by the content delivery network services firm Akamai Technologies Inc, said Sri Lanka registered a 50 percent year-on-year improvement to increase its average speed to 5.3 Mbps.


Singapore to help revive LakSathosa

Singapore has extended its support to revive LakSathosa, Sri Lanka’s sole State-owned retail chain In a significant development affecting Sri Lanka’s retail market segments. The immediate offer of support comes in the wake of a Ministerial level call made recently in Colombo, High Commissioner Chandra Das, the former Member of Parliament of Singapore from Chong Boon said.

In 2014, Singapore was in fourth place in the list of Sri Lanka’s main importing countries representing 6.6% of Sri Lanka’s total imports.

The LakSathosa retail chain has over 310 outlets.


SriLankan bags award

SriLankan Airlines was awarded the Superior Achievement in Passenger Experience - Asia Pacific Region, at the APEX Awards – 2015 in Oregon, USA, in what most consider to be the Oscars of the Airline world.

The global award presented to SriLankan Airlines, recognizes a remarkable surge in improvements made to Passenger Experiences on-board and on-ground by the airline.

SriLankan Airlines Director and CEO Rakhita Jayawardena made the keynote presentation as the opener to the awards night, where he outlined his vision for the national carrier.


Techno 2015 concludes today
