Ferrari look to challenges in 2016

Ferrari believe they can take the step forward necessary to fight Mercedes for next year's world championship, team boss Maurizio Arrivabene says.

The Italian team have bounced back from their worst season in two decades in 2014 to win three races this year. Arrivabene said: "We are happy with this year but we need to keep our feet on the ground looking at the results. We want to be competitive next year and that means being able to fight hopefully head to head with Mercedes."

Arrivabene was drafted in for this season following the sacking of the last team principal Marco Mattiacci after only seven months in charge. Mattiacci himself had replaced the previous incumbent Stefano Domenicali, who resigned when it became clear just how far off the pace Ferrari had fallen in the early races of 2014.

The turnaround is largely due to a significant step forward in performance from the engine, which is now virtually a match for Mercedes after struggling last year.
