People's Bank honours long-serving employees

People's Bank felicitated 94 employees who completed twenty-five years of service with the bank at the Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel recently.

The employees were presented a token of appreciation and acknowledgement for contributing to the bank's growth and success.

VW to recall 2.4 m cars

Volkswagen (VW) has been ordered to recall 2.4 million cars in Germany by the country's automotive watchdog (KBA) as a result of the diesel emissions scandal. German media reports suggest the KBA earlier rejected VW's proposals that car owners could voluntarily bring their cars for repair.

Meanwhile, Italian police raided VW offices in Verona and Lamborghini offices in Bologna. Reports said Italian prosecutors are investigating alleged commercial fraud.

 


LankaClear obtains ISO certification

The national payment network operator, LankaClear (Pvt) Ltd, has been certified ISO27001:2013 Information Security Management Systems compliant, for process and assets of LankaSign Certification Service.

LankaSign is the brand of LankaClear under which web and digital security services are offered to the market. As a Digital Certification Service Provider (CSP) LankaClear provides the most secured cryptographic solutions through LankaSign.

The ISO27001 certification provides a framework for assessing aspects of information security related to security policy, management of information assets, human resource security, physical and environmental security, communications and operations management access control, acquisition and maintenance of information systems.


China has more billionaires than the US

A staggering 242 Chinese billionaires were minted over the past year, propelling the country ahead of America for the first time, according to Hurun Report's annual China rich list. China now has 596 billionaires, compared to 537 in the US.

"Despite the slowdown in the economy, China's richest have defied gravity, recording their best year ever, and creating more wealth than any country has ever done before in a year," said Chairman of Hurun Report, Rupert Hoogewerf.

 


CCC seminar on transportation and logistics

The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) will line up an impressive set of speakers, consisting of public and private sector officials, including academics to discuss transportation and logistics strategies that should be adopted to propel Sri Lanka's export growth.

The seminar to be held at 3 pm on Friday, October 23 at the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce auditorium, is titled 'Developing Effective Transportation and Logistics Strategies to propel Sri Lanka Towards an accelerated Export Economy'.


Seminar on monetary policy

A two-day seminar on 'Monetary Policy: Impact on Banks and Financial Institutions' organised by the Centre for Banking Studies will be held on October 21-22 at the Centre for Banking Studies, Rajagiriya.

The program tailor-made for officers of the Central Bank, government officials, university lecturers, and officers of financial institutions will be conducted by senior Central Bankers.
