England end short of 99 target

England set with a target of 99 runs were 74 for 4 when play ended on the fifth and final day of their first cricket Test against Pakistan in Dubai yesterday.

Pakistan who made 528 for 8 in the first innings were dismissed for 173 in the second innings that brought England back into the match.

Pakistan 1st innings 523-8 dec (Shoaib Malik 245, Asad Shafiq 107, Mohammad Hafeez 98, Ben Stokes 4-57, James Anderson 2-42)

England 1st innings 598-9 dec (Alastair Cook 263, Joe Root 85, Ben Stokes 57)
Pakistan 2nd innings 173 (Misbah-ul-Haq 51, Younis Khan 45, Mohammad Hafeez 34, Adil Rashid 5-64)
England 2nd innings (target 99 runs) 74-4 (Joe Root 33 n.o, Shoaib Malik 2-25, Zulfiqar Babar 2-27).
