Top UN official briefed on APC

Visiting UN Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs has taken up matters relating to reconciliation and accountability during his meetings with government leaders in Colombo.

Miroslav Jenca, who arrived in Sri Lanka on October 21 on a five-day visit, was also briefed on the All Party Conference (APC) convened on Thursday by President Maithripala Sirisena to discuss modalities of the domestic mechanism proposed under the UNHRC Resolution to investigate allegations of war crimes.

Jenca met with the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera and the Governors of Northern and Eastern Provinces during his stay. At the tail end of the visit Jenca participated in the UN Day event, organised to celebrate the twin milestones of the UN's seventieth anniversary and Sri Lanka's sixtieth anniversary as a Member State, at the UN Compound early Saturday. The visit follows recent discussions between the Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon and President Maithripala Sirisena on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly high-level meetings in New York.
