Top UN official briefed on APC
Visiting UN Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs has
taken up matters relating to reconciliation and accountability during
his meetings with government leaders in Colombo.
Miroslav Jenca, who arrived in Sri Lanka on October 21 on a five-day
visit, was also briefed on the All Party Conference (APC) convened on
Thursday by President Maithripala Sirisena to discuss modalities of the
domestic mechanism proposed under the UNHRC Resolution to investigate
allegations of war crimes.
Jenca met with the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Foreign
Minister Mangala Samaraweera and the Governors of Northern and Eastern
Provinces during his stay. At the tail end of the visit Jenca
participated in the UN Day event, organised to celebrate the twin
milestones of the UN's seventieth anniversary and Sri Lanka's sixtieth
anniversary as a Member State, at the UN Compound early Saturday.The
visit follows recent discussions between the Secretary-General Ban Ki
Moon and President Maithripala Sirisena on the sidelines of the UN
General Assembly high-level meetings in New York. |
