The office-bearers of the SLIBC

The Sri Lanka-Indonesia Business Council (SLIBC) which functions under the aegis of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce held its 22nd Annual General Meeting at Taj Samudra recently. SLIBC was set up in 1991 to promote trade, investment, tourism and services between the two countries.

Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia in Sri Lanka and the patron of the Council, Harimawan Suyitno was the chief guest.

The Ambassador said Sri Lanka could benefit by liaising with Indonesia, one of the fastest growing economies in the world. Former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Indonesia, Mrs. Anoja Wijeyesekera, the guest speaker for the evening, made a presentation on 'Trade with Indonesia: some insights and suggestions for improvement'.

She analysed Sri Lanka's declining export performance and the issues facing exporters and made several suggestions to overcome these problems. She also suggested some recommendations for the Government, the BOI and the Chamber of Commerce.

"We need to do more to help exporters to tap the huge Indonesian market, particularly its large Middle Class Affluent Consumers (MACS)," she said.

Managing Director, Ceyline Holdings (Pvt) Ltd. Jayantha Rathnayake was elected President of SLIBC for 2015-2016.
