Old Thomians celebrate 130 years with 'Walkathon'
The Old Boys' Association of S. Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia, will
celebrate 130 years of its formation, this year.
Among the oldest alumni associations in the world in recorded
history, STC will commence a series of events planned to mark this
milestone, with a 'Walkathon' on November 7.
Organized by the Special Events Committee, the 'Walkathon' will
commence from Havelock Park at 3 p.m on Saturday(7) with the
participation of students and old boys of STC Mt. Lavinia, Colpetty,
Gurutalawa, Bandarawela as well as parents and well wishers.
The "Walkathon" which is due to commence from Havelocks Sports Club
grounds would proceed along Dickman's Road, Duplication Road, Galle Road
and would end at a Hawker Street Mini Carnival at S. Thomas' College Mt
Lavinia around 6 p.m.
150th anniversary of All Saints Church, Hulftsdorp today
All Saints Church, Hulftsdorp will celebrate its 150th anniversary
today. The Holy Communion Service will be held at 6 p.m. followed by a
fellowship.
Medical camp today
The Kumpulan Malayu, Battaramulla will hold a free medical camp
today, November 1 from 8.00 a.m. at the Community Centre, Jayawadanagama.
Krishnamurti talk
A recorded public talk on 'The Relationship of Experience and
Thought' delivered by the late Indian sage, Jiddu Krishnamurti will be
replayed at the Study Centre, Beddagana, Duwa Road, Kotte today, October
25 at 9.45 a.m.
It is organised by the Krishnamurti Centre, Sri Lanka Inc.
43rd anniversary of Union Church, Welisara
The Union Church, Welisara will celebrate its 43rd anniversary
of the unity of Anglican, Baptist, Christian Reformed and the
Methodist Churches next month. A three-day mission service on 'Family'
will be conducted from November 5 to 7 at 6.30 p.m. by Dr. Ajith
Fernando, Teaching Director of Youth for Christ to mark the occasion.The
Thanksgiving Service will be held on Sunday, November 8 at 9.30 a.m. and
Rev. Asiri Perera, President of the Methodist Church of Sri Lanka will
be the guest speaker.
Romantic Masterworks by SOSL
The Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka (SOSL) will stage another concert
at the Ladies College Hall on November 6. The concert will commence with
Offenbach's delightful Overture to Orpheus in the Underworld, with its
toe-tapping CAN-CAN finale. Schubert's Symphony No 5, composed at the
very young age of 19, is described as being "full of good humour, good
tunes and in places, sparkles with the promise of things to come." The
show will end with Lalo's Cello Concerto performed by Dushyanthi Perera.
Dushy, who in the recent past has excelled as a conductor of the SOSL,
is Sri Lanka's leading cellist, who is also the Guest Principal Cellist
of the Bombay Chamber Orchestra.
The Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka will be conducted by Ajit
Abeysekera.
Ahmadiyya Montessori 25th Anniv. today
The 25th Anniversary celebration of Ahmadiyya Montessori will be held
today November 1 from 2 p.m. at the Ahmadiyya Jubilee Hall, 28, Jumma
Masjid Road, Periyamulla, Negombo. Chairperson, Ahmadiyya Ladies Wing,
Mrs. Rehana Tariq will be the chief guest. |
