UN awards for schoolchildren
The United Nations Association of Sri Lanka presented awards for the
Best Study Circle Contest, General Knowledge Contest, Speech Contest and
Essay Writing Contest among schoolchildren to mark the 70th National
Observance of United Nations Day.
The ceremony was held at the Bishop's College Auditorium, Colombo
recently. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Harsha De Silva was the
chief guest and Acting Resident Coordinator and FAO Representative for
Sri Lanka and the Maldives Bath S. Crawford were Guests of Honour.
The keynote address was delivered by the All Island Best Speaker

The winner of the Essay Writing Contest - Tharindi Dilara Pilapitiya
of Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo and the award for the Best
Teacher-in-Charge of the Study Circle was M.Z.M. Riza of Christ Church
College, Matale.
Entertainment and cultural items were presented by Students of Ladies
College Colombo and Kehan Gunathillake and Musthaq Shamail of The
Colombo Toastmasters Gavel Club.
