Tamil political prisoners continue fast

The 219 Tamil prisoners detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) in 14 prisons across the country will begin a new fast-unto-death campaign this morning (Nov. 8), according to Rev.Fr.M.Sakthivel, Coordinator of the National Movement for Release of Political Prisoners (NMRPP) who visited the prisoners.

The prisoners had also conveyed their decision to the media the previous day through their parents and relatives. The prisoners are re-starting their indefinite fast-unto-death demanding a common Presidential pardon to 219 prisoners instead of releasing them batch by batch Fr.Sakthivel had said.

They are demanding that the government follow the example of the release of JVP political prisoners.
