Katina pinkama at the Gangarama Temple

Offering 'Katina Vasthra' or robes, marking the conclusion of observing the 'VAS' period by bhikkhus will be held today, November 8 , 2015.

Other necessities for the temple and equipment required for the alms hall will be among the offerings. Requirements for the Kataragama pilgrims' Rest can also be made.

The procession bearing the Katina Cheevara will leave No. 17, Layards Road, Havelock Road, and make its way through Thunmulla Junction, Thurstan Road, Sir Ernest De Silva Mawatha, Sir James Peiris Mawatha, Sri Jinaratana Road and arrive at the Gangaramaya Temple at 6.00 a.m.

The Katinanisansa Dharma Sermon will be held from 7.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m.

The two ruby Buddha statues will be on display at the Gangarama temple from Nov. 8 to Dec. 31, 2015. Foreign visitors as well as devotees can visit on any day and receive the blessings of these Buddha statues. During the period of the exhibition, a date and time could be reserved to worship the ruby Buddha statues in private.


Commemorating Poppy Day 2015

Poppy Day which falls on November 8 was commemorated at the Parliament complex recently.

President of the Sri Lanka Ex-servicemen's Association, Brigadier K.A. Gnanaweera pinned a poppy on Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and on several other dignitaries. Poppy Day - 2015 will be held today (8) at the War Hero cenotaph at Vihara Maha Devi Park, Colombo. The proceeds from the sale of poppy flowers are used to fund the welfare of war heroes.

Amana Bank Toastmasters Club Second Installation

Amana Bank Toastmasters Club recently held its second Installation Ceremony at the Bank's HR Training Room. It was attended by members of the Toastmasters fraternity and employees of the Bank.

CEO, Amana Bank, Mohamed Azmeer was the Chief Guest while Immediate Past District Governor, District 82, Toastmaster Yusuf Jeevunjee and Division Director, Division F, Toastmaster Bernadine Jayasinghe were the Guests of Honour.

Division Director, Division F, Toastmaster Bernadine Jayasinghe delivered the keynote address. Five new members were inducted to the Club by Immediate Past President Toastmaster Shazuli Raheem. The installation of office bearers was conducted by Area Director, Area 5, Division F, Toastmaster Dilusha Gamage.

The Executive Committee of the Bank's Toastmasters Club for 2015 / 2016 comprises Hisham Alif (President), Shamil Aniff (Vice President Education), Feroze Faizer (Vice President Membership), Nishard Nuha (Vice President Public Relations), Chamith Perera (Secretary), Nuwan Fernando (Treasurer), Namal Dasanayake (Sergeant-at-Arms) and Shazuli Raheem (Immediate Past President).
