Met dept issues bad weather warning

The Department of Meteorology has forecast heavy rainfall and strong winds over the country today (November 15).

The forecast said that showers or thundershowers will be experienced over the most parts of the island while heavy rain (about 150mm) are also likely at some places.

There may be temporary localised strong winds during the thundershowers. People should take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by lightning. According to the forecast, the disturbance in the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a low pressure area and now located to the East of Sri Lanka. Under the influence of the system, showery weather and cloudy skies over the country is expected to continue and the possibility for strong winds over the country and surrounding sea areas.
