Maskeliya Plantations obtains rainforest alliance certificate

Maskeliya Plantations PLC owned by the Richard Pieris Group of
Companies, and five smallholders, who supply green leaf to three
Maskeliya Plantation factories have obtained the Rainforest Alliance
Certificate.
The estates that obtained the certificate are Laxapana, Maskeliya,
Moray, Maskeliya, Hapugastenna, Maskeliya, Moussakellie, Maskeliya,
Brownlow, Maskeliya, Glentilt, Maskeliya, Glenugie (Deeside), Maskeliya,
Mocha, Maskeliya, Strathspey, Upcot, St. Clair, Talawakelle, Talawakelle
Estate, Talawakelle, Troup, Talawakelle and Ferham, Talawakelle.
The smallholder estates Dotella, Bittern, Peakfield (ADCG), Peakfield
- Block 2, in Maskeliya which supply leaf to Glentilt, Laxapana and
Moray Estate too have obtained the Rainforest Alliance certificate along
with Maskeliya Plantation estates. These estates are in three different
planting and agro climatical regions, Maskeliya, Upcot and Talawakelle,
which are at the highest elevation from sea level.
This is the first time in Sri Lanka that a Rainforest Alliance (RA) -
Sustainable Agriculture Network (SAN) Group Certificate has been
obtained for such a large number of estates with bought leaf suppliers,
at the same time.
This certification is an internationally recognized integrated
environmental, social and ethical compliance program, consistent
performance and results achieved through the implementation of best
environmental and biodiversity conservation and management practices
under this program contributed greatly to secure this credential. |
