Dreams children cherish

Dreams at times do come true. This week we highlight some of the dreams and aspirations of young people.

'Teaching, my ambition'

"My class teacher has inspired me to be a teacher one day. Her name is Safiya. She is my role model and I like to be a teacher like her one day. Fathima Amra Akram is in Grade three at Naleem Hajiar Ladies College, China Fort, Beruwala. She also says that "Teachers are kind and helpful. They do a great service to society." My mother who is employed encourages and motivates me a lot. When she returns home after work, she helps me with my studies. My ambition is to become a teacher some day and guide the children just as my teacher has inspired me."

 

 

 


'I yearn to be a doctor'

"My dream is to pass out as a doctor and help humanity. This is my cherished dream. My family helps me in no uncertain terms to realize my dream. I am Thamara Pieris studying at Ananda College, Colombo. I am in the Advanced Level class doing Biology. The well-being of people is paramount. I hope I will achieve my dream."

 

 

 

 


'Exploring space, my dream'

Rithik Ragav Nagadharshan is studying at International House of Montessori for Children in Colombo. He says "My dream is to earn well and become a rich person one day." His desires are many. He loves to travel to space and see the wonders of space and says for all this, he needs money. Having seen cartoon space movies, he says he would even sweep the roads to earn money and collect it to explore space." The bus conductors have a `lot of money' in their hands so, I too like to earn like them. I want to discover a lot in this world. I want to live in other planets such as Jupiter and Saturn. I wish my dream comes true."

 

 

 


'Programmers are vital for the future'

Devanjith de Silva in the Advanced Level class at Nalanda College, Colombo and studies Mathematics, Physics and ICT. "At present I am involved in programming and my dream is to be an excellent programmer. I asked myself why I wanted to become a programmer and realized it is not just because it is difficult but because programmers are vital for the future. My childhood dream was to be a pilot but as I grew up it changed."

 

 

 

 


'The medical profession is ideal'

Deborah Vidushi Godakumbura is in Grade Seven at Ladies College, Colombo. She too yearns to be a doctor. She likes treat patients. "I like Health Science. When I see doctors I feel that it is a good profession. I like to see how the machines work in the operating theatres and I wish to handle them. I will help the poor, needy and the sick by providing them with medicines. My father encourages me a lot. He buys me a lot books on medicine and health. He helps me to study. I will study hard and achieve my dream and be a doctor some day."
