PRECIFAC to take legal action against Maj. Gen. Jayasundara
by Dhaneshi Yatawara
The Presidential Commission of Inquiry to Investigate and Inquire
into Serious Acts of Fraud, Corruption and Abuse of Power, State
Resources, and Privileges (PRECIFAC) will pursue legal action against
Major General (Rtd) Gamini Jayasundara, former General Manager of Rakna
Arakshaka Lanka Limited for giving false evidence before the Commission.
The Commission has sufficient evidence to take legal action against
Maj. Gen. Jayasundara, according to the Secretary to PRECIFAC Lacille de
Silva.
“The Commission, through its investigation officers, has lodged a
complaint with the Cinnamon Gardens police. We will pursue legal action
on the instructions of the Commission,” de Silva said.
The two-day public hearing held for the first time on allegations
against State-owned RALL spotlighted incriminating evidence, while
creating confusion over several other issues due to Maj. Gen. (Rtd)
Jayasundara giving false evidence. Contradicting the statement made on
the first day, Jayasundara apologized to the Commission the next day.
PRECIFAC will hold another public hearing of the investigations on
RALL on December 3 and 4.
De Silva added that PRECIFAC will report to the Attorney General’s
Department against the Ministry of Industry and Commerce for
re-recruiting the Chief Engineer of Lak Sathosa, who had been asked to
keep away from his official capacity by the Commission due to his
involvement in the alleged fraudulent practices. The alleged money scam
of Lak Sathosa is currently being investigated by the Commission. |
