Matara hails Kosala Sahabandu
Veteran Sri Lankan athlete Kosala Sahabandu was recently felicitated
by the Southern Province Sports Ministry.
Sahabandu who hails from Matara is an old boy of Rahula College. A
champion middle distance runner he established a new Sri Lankan record
for the 800 metres event in 1974 and represented Sri Lanka at many
international meets during the course of his career.
He was a member of the Sri Lanka 4x400 relay team that established a
new Asian Games record at the 1974 Asian Games held in Bangkok and also
was a member of the Sri Lanka 4x400 relay quartet at the Moscow Olympics
held in 1980.
Weerasumana Weerasinghe, the Provincial Minister of Sports praised
Sahabandu for his contribution to track and field sport in the country
during the felicitation ceremony.
154th feast of St. Mary's Church, Mattakkuliya
The
154th feast of St Mary's church, Mattakkuliya will be celebrated on a
grand scale on Sunday, December 13, said the Parish Priest Rev. Fr.
Christopher Madurawala OMI.
Rev. Fr. Anthony Fernandopulle and Rev. Fr. Andrias Fernando OMI will
officiate at the festive High Mass in English and Sinhala at 7.30am. Fr.
Madurawala said this year's theme will be "The Holy Family is the
epitome of Christian family life".
The flagstaff will be hoisted on Thursday, December 3 at 4 pm.
Vespers will be sung on Saturday, December 12 at 7.30 pm presided over
by Rev. Fr. Rohan Silva OMI.
He said the procession carrying the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary
will commence at 5pm from the church and wend its way through St. Mary's
Lane,Jubilee Mawatha, Rodrigo Place, Fergusion Road, Rasamunakanda,
Vystwyke Road, Crow Island, St Mary's Road and return to the Church. |
