Katukurunda meet

Darin Weerasinghe has proved himself as a versatile sportsman this
time winning a gold medal at the Singapore Power Lifting championships
in the under 105 kgs body weight category showcasing Sri Lanka's
strengths at international level.
He is under the care of United Tractor and Equipment (UTE) and has
now qualified for the Commonwealth Games in 2018 in Vancouver, Canada.
Weerasinghe is also a prominent racing driver and record holder who
continued his winning performances by setting a remarkable benchmark at
the recent Rotherham Circuit Meet organized by SLADA and the Air Force
at Katukurunda..
Driving a Subaru WRX STI for the past six years, Weerasinghe switched
to a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution and came out on top, qualifying for
Pole Position with a new lap record of 57.72 seconds.
It was a significant achievement marking the first time this
particular car was driven by him. On race day, Weerasinghe began from
Pole leading throughout with a significant lead and winning the race by
surpassing experienced drivers who have been driving for many years.
But due to heavy rain and the lack of rain-resistant tyres,
Weerasinghe was placed third in his second race. UTE has been sponsoring
Weerasinghe's racing and strength sports (power-lifting) since 2011. |
