Colombo hosts second American football tourney

The second EFLI University Flag American Football tournament with teams mainly from Colombo, Jaffna, Rajarata, Kandy and Pakistan and sponsored by the South Asia Gateway Terminal for the SAGT trophy will be conducted on November 28 and 29 at the Race Course International Stadium, Colombo.

It will be contested by 16 University teams across the country including teams from Rajarata and Jaffna. The games will kick off on both days at 8.30 am.

In addition another much looked forward to event, the tackling tournament, will be worked off as a Triangular event with the teams being reinforced with the inclusion of three American Embassy staff for each team.

Game dates will be on December 6 (Colombo vs Jaffna), 9 (Jaffna vs Rajarata), and 11 (Colombo vs Rajarata) at the Race Course ground.

Dilroy Fernando the Director of EFLI and the livewire behind introducing the sport in Sri Lanka said that he was encouraged by the developments taking place with the sport in the island and the interest shown by spectators which augurs well for the future.
