A prominent person, my ambition
Thullya Balasurya, a Grade 11 student at Piliyandala Central, College
says that he wants to be a prominent person in the country. He says that
his dream is to be an engineer and achieve greatness through his
profession. Thullya wants to achieve a good position in the engineering
field. "Usually I get more than 75 marks in my term tests at school and
I have the courage and belief that I could realise my dream. My father
helps me a lot to achieve my dream. He spends much on my studies," he
said.
Bringing smiles to people, my dream
Thamoda Perera's dream is to become a doctor and she has been
inspired by her father. She studies in Grade 10 at Musaeus College
Colombo. She says that both her parents are doctors and her father takes
her to the clinic once in a while. She likes to sit beside her father
while he treats patients. She said, "People are out of sorts when they
come to consult my father. My father brought smiles to their faces. I
too wish to bring smiles to people's faces one day.
An airline pilot, my dream
Ayesh Dewith who studies in Grade four at S. Thomas College says that
he yearns to be a airplane pilot."I like to drop passengers at their
destination safely. I visited to Canada when I was nine years old and I
saw some pilots at the airport. They wore a white shirt with wings,
black trousers and a hat and looked very smart. My father told me that I
need to study Mathematics well to become a pilot. I like Maths and score
well in the subject," he said.
I can assemble parts
"I want to be an engineer one day because I can dismantle and fix
things again," says Himath Perera who studies in Grade three at Ananda
College, Colombo. He says that his favourite subject is Maths and that
his grandparents, parents and sister help him with his studies. He says
that he likes to assemble cars and that one day he dismantled the parts
of a torch and put it together again when his parents were not at home.
He was thrilled that he fixed it correctly. "I wish my dream comes
true," he says.
Geoffrey Bawa inspired me
Shiruni Perera, a Grade 10 student at Musaeus College, Colombo says
that she likes to be an architect. She says she was inspired by Geoffrey
Bawa, the most-renowneded architect in Sri Lanka. He was among the most
influential Asian architects of his generation.
He was the driving force behind what is today known globally as
'Tropical modernism.' "I am good at numbers, hence I like Mathematics. I
like to compare the different styles and features of a building. I want
to bring in a change and introduce a unique style as I believe that
everyone has an extraordinary talent in designing. I am an eco-friendly
person and I like to create designs connected to the environment." Her
parents and teachers help her a great deal to achieve her dream, she
said. |
