Nursing and geriatric training for Lankan women
by Dhaneshi Yatawara
More training opportunities will be available in nursing and
geriatric care for Sri Lankan women aspiring to seek employment as
unskilled or semi-skilled workers. The Sri Lanka Foreign Employment
Bureau (SLBFE) is keen on providing more training for women as
caregivers. "We have requested the Ministry of Skills Development and
Vocational Training to provide certified training," said SLBFE Chairman,
Raj Obeysekere.
With the 2016 Budget proposal for a minimum monthly wage of US$ 300
for unskilled and semi- skilled workers, attention needs to be drawn to
systematically train the workers, he said.
According to SLBFE data, the focus on skilled labour migration has
benefited males, with the increase in the number of male workers leaving
for South Korea. Last year, 6,606 males had left for employment in South
Korea and till October 2015, 5,932 males had gone for employment to the
same destination. |
