Commissioner General of Examinations, W.M.N.J Pushpakumara told the Sunday Observer, strict instructions have been issued to candidates sitting the GCE (Ordinary Level) examination that they should not attach any cash to their answer scripts under any circumstances. "No letters to invigilators will be tolerated.

Last year a student had attached Rs.15,000 in currency notes requesting the examiner to pass the student," he said.

Over 664,715 students are due to sit the GCE (Ordinary Level) examination from December 8 to 17, the largest number of students to sit the examination islandwide, according to the Department of Examinations. Pushpakumara said the highest number of students will sit the examination this year, compared to 570,409 candidates last year.
