Open dialogue imperative for new constitution

A commission is to be set up within the next two months to receive and review public opinion over the proposed draft of a new Constitution, said Minister D.M. Swaminathan, a member of the Parliamentary sub-committee headed by Prime Minister Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

"At our recent meeting with the PM, we discussed the means by which the President will pass on his powers to the Legislature at the end of the President's tenure in office. It is imperative that we seek public opinion. Hence a commission will be set up to receive and review them," he said.
