Book Week at the British School

There could be many ways to enhance the world of children but the best of all would be the love of books. But it's often quite a tedious task to get your child to sit down in a place and start actually turning the pages. In order to inculcate the habit in children in their formative years, the British School in Colombo held its Annual Book Week during the last week of November. The week was packed with lots of activities where students from reception to Year 6 were involved in peer reading sessions and various other activities. Children from Year 1 to Year 4 visited bookshops in the city, while nursery and playground class had story time.

The quizzes held by each key stage were the perfect opportunity for the pupils to show off their knowledge about books and authors, answering some very trick questions with ease and confidence.

The week's proceedings were rounded off with the annual character parade held on November 27, 2015 where each student dressed up like their favourite characters from books and rhymes. These ranged from traditional favourites such as Snow White and Cinderella to modern characters such as Willy Wonka and Harry Potter as well as animal characters including the Enormous Crocodile and Fantastic Mr. Fox.
