WiLat schols for mentees
WiLAT (Women in Logistics and Transport) marked the first anniversary
of its mentoring program 'Ignite' recently.
"The program was launched in November, 2014 and within a short time,
our program received global recognition," WiLAT President Gayani de
Alwis told the first anniversary celebrations in Colombo last week.
Managing Director, EFL, Saif Yusuf was the the chief guest.
CCO of SAGT, Ted Muttiah was the keynote speaker. WiLAT adopted four
thrust areas, mentorship, entrepreneurship, leadership and empowerment
to work on for the next three years at its global convention in Dubai
recently,
A scholarship program for mentees was also launched with the support
of the Lions Club of Thalangama North led by its President Retd. Brig
Maithree Tennekoon.
"We have organized a walk for the first time to create awareness of
our profession, logistics and transport, and also to create a gender
balance in the sector. It will be held in June every year coinciding
with the day the organisation was founded," she said. Mentoring is a
powerful personal development and empowerment tool to help people
progress in their careers and in their personal lives physically and
emotionally.
"We had 55 young females involved in the logistics and transport
industry or in related services or academic institutions registered in
our Ignite program. The mentors were senior WiLAT members with wide
experience in the logistics and transport sector holding senior
positions in the industry or attached to academic and professional
organizations related to the sector," de Alwis said. |
