Derrick on a musical high
All set to wow his fans at several performances in
Colombo:
Derrick
Junkeer, popularly known as Derrick J in Australia, who wowed his fans
into giving him a standing ovation as he stepped down from the stage
during his performance at the Galadari Hotel in October, is all set to
wow local music lovers again with a series of performances, beginning
with the Gold FM 70s Show and the 'Tourism Fest with the Spirit of
Christmas' both on December 19.
The 70s Show, which he is doing on the invitation of the Chairman of
Gold FM, Raynor Silva, will be held at Taj Hotel, from 6.00 p.m. to
Midnight. Derrick is scheduled to perform at around 10.30 p.m. The
Tourism Fest, which he is performing on the special invitation of John
Amaratunga, Minister of Tourism Development and Christian Religious
Affairs, will be at The Arcade, Independence Square.
With
December being the peak month for tourist arrivals and festivities, the
idea behind 'Tourism Fest with the Spirit of Christmas' is to portray
Sri Lankan food, culture, gems, tea, shopping and entertainment at one
venue. Amongst the main attractions during this Fest will be an
exhibition of Sri Lankan culture and heritage and special exhibitions of
wild life, zoological gardens, handicrafts and gems. In addition, a food
festival on Sri Lankan and international cuisine with the participation
of leading hotels and restaurants in Colombo and a tea boutique is
targeted to offer a delectable experience to the visitors to embody a
true spirit of Christmas.
On December 20, Derrick will be part of the Special X'mas High Tea
performance at the Galadari Hotel, a one-of-a-kind event that will
provide the right ambiance for romantic renditions of songs that were
the golden hits of singers like Engelbert Humperdinck and Tom Jones, and
some popular Xmas carols.
Derrick will stay back in Colombo till January 2, 2016 to perform at
the Galadari Hotel for New Years Eve with the9 piece band FLAME and
special guest Ishan Bahar
Although now domiciled in Melbourne, Derrick J has not lost his touch
in entertaining music lovers both young and old - something that he has
been doing for more than 40 years. His appearances on the TV specials
'Good Morning Australia', 'In Melbourne Today', as a singer, and a host
on the Sri Lanka Morning Show on Channel 31 has escalated his popularity
and he is now a household name in Melbourne. |
