Derrick on a musical high

All set to wow his fans at several performances in Colombo:

Derrick Junkeer, popularly known as Derrick J in Australia, who wowed his fans into giving him a standing ovation as he stepped down from the stage during his performance at the Galadari Hotel in October, is all set to wow local music lovers again with a series of performances, beginning with the Gold FM 70s Show and the 'Tourism Fest with the Spirit of Christmas' both on December 19.

The 70s Show, which he is doing on the invitation of the Chairman of Gold FM, Raynor Silva, will be held at Taj Hotel, from 6.00 p.m. to Midnight. Derrick is scheduled to perform at around 10.30 p.m. The Tourism Fest, which he is performing on the special invitation of John Amaratunga, Minister of Tourism Development and Christian Religious Affairs, will be at The Arcade, Independence Square.

With December being the peak month for tourist arrivals and festivities, the idea behind 'Tourism Fest with the Spirit of Christmas' is to portray Sri Lankan food, culture, gems, tea, shopping and entertainment at one venue. Amongst the main attractions during this Fest will be an exhibition of Sri Lankan culture and heritage and special exhibitions of wild life, zoological gardens, handicrafts and gems. In addition, a food festival on Sri Lankan and international cuisine with the participation of leading hotels and restaurants in Colombo and a tea boutique is targeted to offer a delectable experience to the visitors to embody a true spirit of Christmas.

On December 20, Derrick will be part of the Special X'mas High Tea performance at the Galadari Hotel, a one-of-a-kind event that will provide the right ambiance for romantic renditions of songs that were the golden hits of singers like Engelbert Humperdinck and Tom Jones, and some popular Xmas carols.

Derrick will stay back in Colombo till January 2, 2016 to perform at the Galadari Hotel for New Years Eve with the9 piece band FLAME and special guest Ishan Bahar

Although now domiciled in Melbourne, Derrick J has not lost his touch in entertaining music lovers both young and old - something that he has been doing for more than 40 years. His appearances on the TV specials 'Good Morning Australia', 'In Melbourne Today', as a singer, and a host on the Sri Lanka Morning Show on Channel 31 has escalated his popularity and he is now a household name in Melbourne.
