When I grow up

Hope, wish, fantasy....

Call it what you may, but everyone dreams of being someone or doing something different when they grow up. Some dream of being astronauts, rocket scientists, space explorer... Some dream of being clowns, comedians and running away to a circus. Still others want to be lawyers, doctors, cricketers or superstars.

The sky, as they say, is the limit to your dreams... But what's the fun if you keep it all to yourself? So why not put pen to paper, or finger to keyboard, and share with us what you dream of being when you grow up? You can mail your dreams, along with your photograph to [email protected] or send it by snail mail to 'Junior Observer', No. 35, D.R. Wijewardene Mawatha, Colombo 10.

To start off, we thought we'd ask some of your friends about the things they dream of... Read what they have to say.

I want to bring honour to my country

My dream is to become a cricketer one day. I am Y. Dhushyanthan and I study in Grade eight at Ranabima Royal College. One day, I wish to join the International Cricket Team. I have confidence that I can play well. I practise a lot after school. I want to play well and bring honour to my country. I want to be the opening batsman in my team. I want to be victorious and successful in my career. I am ready to accept victory and defeat.

I will look after my Amma

When I grow up I will look after my Amma well. She loves and cares a lot for me. I love her more than anything else in this world so I want to look after her well one day. I am Senethma and I study in Grade two at Swarnamali Girls' College. I want to earn money so I will become a doctor one day. I will treat the patients with kindness and give proper medicine to them.

I like to visit America

I am Chirantha Supun Dissanayake. I study in Grade seven at Sri Chandananda Buddhist College. When I grow up, I like to visit the United States of America. I like to do my higher studies their. I will do a good job in that country when I complete my higher studies and buy my favourite BMW car. I will earn a good salary and be rich. I will be rich and happy but I won't get married. I wish my dream comes true.

I want to catch the moon one day

I am E.M.Y.N. Dissanayake studying in Grade five at Kingswood College, Kandy. I have many wishes in my life. First of all I want to be an engineer. I will study hard and achieve it. I have some more dreams like I want to land on the moon one day. I like the moon and like to fly in the sky. I wish if there were chocolate waterfalls so that I could drink some chocolates from the flowing waterfall. I want to eat many colourful toffees. Among all these dreams, my biggest and the most important dream is to look after my mother like a queen when she gets old.
