HIRUNIKA’S ARREST IMMINENT

AG’s Department studies video footage of Press briefing and call records:

Statement from daughter of supporter proves MP’s involvement:

UNP Parliamentarian Hirunika Premachandra’s arrest in connection with the alleged abduction of a youth in Dematagoda is imminent, sources from the Attorney General’s Department said.

They added, there was sufficient evidence to suggest that the UNP MP was aware of the alleged abduction and it was done with her consent.

The Police, last week, sought the Attorney General’s Department’s opinion on the arrest of Premachandra over the incident.

Police found a new lead in the investigation into the abduction of the 34-year-old employee and UNP MP Hirunika Premachandra’s alleged involvement in the incident in the form of statements divulged by the daughter of the supporter who was at the venue at the time of the abduction. The statement has already been forwarded to the AG’s Department by the team handling investigations.

According to the Police, the 11-year-old girl who is the daughter of the fifth suspect in the case had said she met Hirunika before as well as after the abduction. The girl who was at the scene at the time of the incident, can be seen in the CCTV video standing by her father, while the abductee is being forcibly hurled out of the drapery store in Dematagoda.

Earlier this week the AG’s Department requested for CCTV footage of the press briefing where Hirunika details the incident, citing that she was merely trying to settle a domestic dispute.

The Colombo Crimes Division informed Courts on Friday of the girl’s statement, which concurs with Amila Priyankara’s version that he was taken to the office of the MP before being threatened and released.

The teams handling the inquiry will also analyse telephone records of the UNP MP and her supporters who have been arrested in connection with the alleged abduction. Colombo Additional Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage, last week, ordered Dialog Axiata to submit phone records to the Police.
