Courtesy call

The Head of the Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Sri Lanka, Claire Meytraud made a courtesy call on State Minister of National Integration and Reconciliation A.H.M. Fowzie at his Ministry recently. Ifran Sulejmani, Ministry Secretary Dr. M. Ganeshamurthi and State Secretary M.M. Zuhair were also present.

125th Anniversary of Royal College Union

As part of the celebrations to mark the '125th Anniversary of the Royal College Union', a formal celebratory dinner will be held on Sunday January 17, 2016 commencing at 7.00 p.m. at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel. This gala sit down dinner exclusively for former Royalists and their spouses will commence with a cocktail reception at the Atrium of the Cinnamon Grand. The event which will launch the celebrations for the 125th anniversary of the Royal College Union is being organized by a special committee of RCU members and is being held on the actual day when the RCU was established.

The evening commences with pre-dinner cocktails followed by a Black tie sit-down dinner at which the school, its history and heritage will be toasted and honoured. The Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe will grace the occasion and will deliver the toast to the Royal College Union.

Commenting on the upcoming event, the committee stated "The Royal College Union's 125th anniversary celebratory dinner will be a very special and truly memorable occasion. We have made every effort to ensure that the evening is very special for every guest. It will be a unique event which would be treasured by the guests throughout their lifetime." The Royal College Union' is one of the oldest school alumni associations in Sri Lanka. The RCU has continuously served the interests of the College as well as its large and diverse membership to ensure that the spirit of being a Royalist is kept alive in the hearts of every Royalist. The RCU has also facilitated the camaraderie of former Royalists since its inception in 1891, whilst helping with the organization of many important sporting events of the college such as the Royal-Thomian cricket encounter, the Bradby Shield matches, the Royal Thomian Regatta as well as national initiatives such as EDEX."


Amateur Yoga Association wins accolades

The Amateur Yoga Association (AYA), Sri Lanka, sent a team to the 24th Amateur World Yoga Sports Championship held at the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from December 18 to 20, 2015.

Apart from participating in the Championship, three team members won the Yoga Referees Certificates and Dr. Subash Chawla was presented an Award of Honour.
