POEMS Stars
Stars, you look so pretty in the sky,
But you are very high;
You come at night,
And you shine bright.
You look like a beauty,
While doing your duty;
Then have a little rest,
And you are the very best.
Children like you most,
When they eat their food,
You look so very nice,
But you have no price.
You are the friend of the moon,
Always coming with the moon;
You are nice and wonderful,
And you are very beautiful.

Night sky
When everything is dark and quiet,
When all dogs bark,
And when wolves howl,
You see a bright light,
High in the sky,
Smiling every night.
Thousands of glowing lights,
Wandering here and there,
Staying with me,
As an angel delight.
Liyana Perera,

Horizon College,

The swing
How do you like to go on a swing,
Up in the air so blue?
Oh, I do think it is a pleasant thing,
Even a child can do.
Up in the air and over the wall,
Till I can see so wide,
Rivers and trees and cattle and all,
Over the countryside.
Till I look down on the garden,
Down on the roof so brown,
Up in the air I go flying again,
Up in the air and down!

The pencil
I'm just a little pencil,
That's made of wood and lead;
My body is long and pointed,
I am smooth and red,
I was once long and pointed,
But now I am short;
I like to write quite nicely,
But master does not try.
He treats me very badly,
And often shaves my head.
He cuts me so unkindly,
That I will soon be dead,
He sucks me too - I hate it,
And puts me in the ink,
I've got a cause to grumble,
Just tell me what you think?

The morning sunrise
The people are waking up,
The tea is shaking up,
The baker is baking up,
And everyone will,
Say good morning what's up?
Among the mountains the sun is rising,
Not knowing what to do,
But the birds kept shouting and flying,
Saying wake up how do you do?
When the sun is out on a hot Sunday,
I would think having an ice on Monday,
Everything happens on a beautiful morning,
Even stealing happens but there's no warning.
