Ceylinco Life goes green

The management, staff and sales team of Ceylinco Life planted around 4,000 trees in one week this month in keeping with Ceylinco Life 'Going Green.'

Ceylinco Life Managing Director and CEO R. Renganathan planted a mango tree at the company's head office at Havelock Road. The company's Tree Planting Week from January 11-17 called upon every employee to plant a tree and furnish photographic evidence of it.

This leads to other environment-related initiatives across the 250 branches of Ceylinco Life, in a year-long sustainability drive comprising three elements - 'Reuse,' 'Reduce' and 'Encourage,' a spokesman for the company said.

"Our theme 'Go Green 2016 with Ceylinco Life' encompasses not only our employees, but their families and our customers," Renganathan said. "We have already implemented several e-commerce initiatives that reduce the use of paper and are making our branch operations eco-friendly and call upon our staff to be Green Ambassadors to their families and friends."

Ceylinco Life staff will be called upon to re-use as many resources as possible, reduce use of resources where possible and engage in similar activities in their homes under the 2016 campaign.

A dedicated portal has been created to track participation and progress of the tree planting campaign and branches have been given a checklist to assist their efforts to reuse and reduce consumption of resources.

Ceylinco Life has also taken a policy decision that all new vehicles bought by the company would be hybrid vehicles and that all new branches will be designed for optimal use of natural light, be solar-powered and have facilities for rainwater harvesting.

Six branch buildings of Ceylinco Life already have these environment-friendly features, and two more Green branches are under construction at Wennappuwa and Horana.
