M.S. Thowfeek for Hafeez

Mohamed Shariff Thowfeek was nominated by the UNP to fill the seat, which fell vacant after the resignation of Abdul Hafeez. M.S. Thowfeek was nominated by the General Secretary of the United National Party (UNP), the Election Commission said.

Thowfeek represented the Trincomalee electoral District in the Sri Lanka Parliament between October 2000 and April 2004, initially for the People’s Alliance and later for the United National Front.

UNP National List MP Abdul Rauf Abdul Hafeez resigned as a Member of Parliament on Tuesday (19), citing personal reasons.
