'Reflejos' (Reflections), an exhibition of Cuban and Sri Lankan Art
is scheduled to be held at the JDA Perera Gallery, 46, Horton Place,
Colombo 7 from January 21 to 31. A joint project between the Cuban
Embassy and the University of Visual and Performing Arts, the exhibition
will showcase the paintings of 22 Cuban artists and four Sri Lankan
artists.
The theme of the exhibition is 'Reflection' and the paintings explore
the idea of reflecting on the friendship between Sri Lanka and Cuba.
Cuban Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Florentino Batist, speaking at the
press conference said, "The relationship between Sri Lanka and Cuba is
not only diplomatic, political and economic, it is also important to
develop a friendship between the two countries and art provides an
opportunity for cultural exchange."
Former Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Havana and Geneva, and Founder of 'Reflejos'
Tamara Kunanayakam said, "It is important to establish or strengthen
relations between Cuba and Sri Lanka at the level of the people, as
people to people relations are more lasting because governments may come
and go."
She also said Reflections is not merely an exhibition of paintings,
it is also a depiction of the way in which Cubans perceive Sri Lanka. |
