Nalandian wins National Statistics Olympiad

The winners of the Statistics Olympiad with IASSL officials

The Institute of Applied Statistics, Sri Lanka (IASSL) conducted two
competitions, the National Statistics Olympiad and the Best Research
Project (undergraduate and postgraduate) contests in October last year.
The winners received their awards on the sidelines of the IASSL Academic
session at the OPA auditorium in November.
Vice Chairman, University Grant Commission, Prof. P. S. M. Gunaratne
was the chief guest and the Acting Director General, National Science
Foundation, Dr. Seetha I. Wickremasinghe was the guest of honour.
The winners of the Gold, Silver and Bronze medals of National
Statistics Olympiad, 2015 were: Senior level - S. U. Kalansuriyaarachchi
of Nalanda College, Colombo, M. K. J. Gunarathna of Sirimavo
Bandaranaike BMV, Colombo and W. D. A. J. Sumanarathna of Rathnavali BV,
Gampaha.
R. M. R. A. Weerabahu of Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya, Colombo 7
(Gold), K. D. N. Sewwandi of Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo (Silver) and P.
M. Kemps of Vishaka Vidyalaya, Colombo (Bronze) were the junior level
award winners.
Best Research Project competition: The undergraduate winners were -
D. N. Samayawardena of Colombo University (Gold), Ms. J. M. D. R.
Jayawardana of Peradeniya University (Silver) and L. H. A. M. Silva of
Wayamba University (Bronze).
Postgraduate winners: M. D. N. Gunarathne of Moratuwa University, Ms.
D. D. H. Rathnayake Postgraduate Institute of Science, Peradeniya
University (Silver) and Ms. T. S. Talagala of Sri Jayewardenepura
University (Bronze).
