CTC holds Thai Pongal dinner
The Canadian Tamil Congress's (CTC) held its ninth annual Thai Pongal
dinner on January 16 at the Hilton Suites in Markham.
Attended by approximately 1000 people, the event showcased Tamil
arts, culture and highlighted CTC's achievements in 2015.

Several political leaders, elected officials and community leaders
including the Canadian Foreign Minister, Stephane Dion, Premier of
Ontario, Kathleen Wynne, Toronto Mayor John Tory, Global Tamil Forum (GTF)
President Fr. S.J. Emmanuel, GTF Spokesperson, Suren Surendiran and
Canadian ministers graced the occasion.
Canadian Foreign Minister Stephane Dion brought the greetings message
from Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau.
Three awards were presented at the event.
The 'Service Excellence Award' was awarded to Ratheesan Yoganatan,
President and CEO of Lebara.
The 'Leaders for Change Award' was presented to John Cartwright,
President of Toronto and York region Labour Council.
'The Living Hero Award' was presented to Rajavarothayam Sampanthan,
Leader of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) and the Opposition Leader of
Parliament in Sri Lanka. TNA Spokesman and Parliamentarian, M. A.
Sumanthiran, accepted the award on behalf of his leader.
The event also included a captivating dance performance by students
of Niro Dance Creations and a youth performance by the Centre for
Leadership and Innovation (CFLI). |
