by Sajeewa Jayakody
CR and FC recorded a runaway 66 points (eight goals, two tries) to 11
(one try, two penalties) win over a pathetic CH and FC in their Dialog A
Division League rugby match played at Longden Place yesterday after
leading 33-6 at ‘lemons’.

The winning team dominated throughout the match starting with two
goals within the first 10 minutes after a 15-minute delayed start at
their home den.
Before a sparse crowd, CR were ably supported by their fullback
Prince Chamara, who had a grand game again. The former Science College
player scored two tries apart from his four successive conversions in
the first half.
Flanker Sasanka Ariyaratne also shone for the Red Shirts scoring two
back to back tries in the first half. Following Chamara’s exit from the
field Tharinda Ratwatte helped with two tries in the second half.
It was Prince Chamara who scored the first try for the Red Shirts,
when he touched down near the left corner flag after breaking the CH
defence in the fifth minute. He made no mistake with the conversion to
make it 7-0.
After a three-quarter move in the fifth minute, flanker Sasanka
Ariyaratne scored near the left corner flag and Chamara added the extra
points to make it 14-0.
Flanker Ariyaratne scored his second consecutive try after a rolling
maul. Chamara made a splendid kick at goal line as the Red Shirts
increased their lead 21-0 within the first 18 minutes of the game and
the rest of the tries simply followed. |
