Inaugural inter club golf tees off today

The Sri Lanka Golf Union will conduct the inaugural Sri Lanka inter club championship today at the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC) course.

Royal Colombo Golf Club, Nuwara Eliya Golf Club, Victoria Golf and Country Resort, Eagles Golf Links, Sandy Bay Golf Links and Army Golf Club Diyatalawa will be represented and the Championship conducted in the Stable-ford points format.

The best 11 scores from each team will count and the team with the best total aggregate score will be the inaugural winners of the Sri Lanka Inter Club Golf Championship Challenge Shield.

The RCGC is expected to field two teams of 25 players each while NEGC, VGCR, EGL, SBGL and AGC will field one team each.

Bally's Entertainment the title sponsor for the Bally's Sri Lanka Open 2015, has facilitated the participation of Professional Golfers playing in the Indian Pro Tour to make a bid for the prize money on offer which will amount to Rs 2,5 million.

United Tractor and Equipment is a co-sponsor along with Associated Motorways - X-Trail and CML Walkers.

K.Prabagaran from Nuwara Eliya will defend his title having won the Sri Lanka Open in 2013 and 2014 while Anura Rohana attempts to win the Sri Lanka Open for a record eighth time with the legendary Nandasena Perera.

N. Thangaraja a winner on the Indian Pro Golf Tour along with Lalith Kumara, Vijitha Bandara, Jehan De Saram (RCGC Club Pro), K.Chandradasa, Sisira Kumara and N. Ranga are also in the fray.

The International challenge is led by Sandeep Syal, M.Dharma, Saqib Ahmed, Manav Jaini and Pradyumna Barbora from the Indian Pro Tour and Aadil Jahangir and Wasim Rana from Pakistan.

Mithun Perera will not be in the field as he is currently playing in the US$ One Million Singapore Open.

The UTE CAT Challenge Trophy 2016 and Pam Fernando Challene Trophy sponsored by United Tractor and Equipment will be conducted concurrently along with the Sri Lanka Senior Open on February 2 and 3.

The Pam Fernando Challenge Trophy is contested by lady members adding more colour to the tournament in the SLGU golfing calendar.
