Cancer patient appeals for help

Savani Jayakody (34), a mother of two, from Moragoda, Gampaha is suffering from Anaplastic lymphoma, since 2014. She has been advised by Senior Oncologist, Dr. Jayantha Balawardane of the National Cancer Institute, Maharagama, to undergo bone marrow transplant surgery in India and the procedure is estimated to cost around Rs. 9 million.

Her family appeals for help from generous well-wishers, to save Savani's life.

Jayasundara to contest for BASL Secretary

Former president and founder Secretary of the Colombo High Court Lawyers' Association, Senarath Jayasundara will contest the post of Secretary of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) at the AGM on Wednesday, February 17. His nomination was proposed by Srinath Perera PC, Anil Silva PC, Manohara de Silva PC, Kushan de Alwis PC, Shanaka Ranasinghe PC, Titus Manatunge and Chula Bandara and was seconded by senior lawyers Neville Abeyratne, Asoka Weerasooriya, E. Thambiah, Ranjan de Silva and U.L.G. Bandara.

Jayasundara studied at the Law Faculty of the University of Colombo, obtaining his LLB and, subsequently, his LLM.

He was admitted to the Bar in 1991 and has completed 24 years of active practice. He also served for some time as a lecturer in Law.


Social worker dies

A well-known social worker in Ragama, Irene Fonseka passed away on Friday. She was the wife of the late Pancracy Fonseka, beloved mother of Joe aka Milan (Australia), Ranjith (Seylan Bank), Shanthi and Ravi (both of St. Joseph's College, Negombo) and Dr. Keerthi (Medical Director, Co-Operative Hospital, Kurunegala), mother-in-law of Corinne, Viranjani, Nihiri (Luvis), Kumari and Ajani passed away on Friday. Burial at Weligampitiya R.C. Church Cemetery, today at 4.00 p.m. Remains lie at 39/3, Thotupola Road, Welisara, Ragama.
