New MBA students at PIM

The new MBA students of the Postgraduate Institute of Management
(PIM) commenced studies recently. Two-hundred-and-forty MBA aspirants,
carefully selected from over one- thousand applicants were present at
the inauguration.
CEO and MD, Lanka Harness Company (Pvt) Ltd, Rohan Pallewatte, who
obtained an MBA from PIM was the chief guest. In his presentation on the
'Role of an MBA towards National Prosperity', Pallewatte highlighted the
significant milestones he achieved as an entrepreneur by applying MBA
knowledge in creating a world-class manufacturing organisation. He
opened his address singing a song on perseverance.
Lanka Harness, a BOI company, has brought over US $ 25 million in
foreign exchange. "We need to concentrate more on quality and
differentiation than on mass production, in competing with manufacturing
giants such as China," he said.
Director, KIK Lanka, Ms. Nadie Algama recounted her experience in
doing the MBA at the PIM.
Director, PIM, Prof. Ajantha S. Dharmasiri outlined the history of
PIM, and its progress so far, emphasising the value addition of PIM
towards national prosperity.
Senior Consultant Dr. Travis Perera spoke on 'PIM's MBA: What and
How', outlining what specialties one needs to know about PIM's MBA
program. Senior Consultant Dr. Trevor Mendis, spoke on 'Do's and Don'ts
at PIM'. He highlighted the culture and traditions of the Institute and
the way things are done. Head, IT Centre, PIM, Sisira Athuraliyage
apprised the participants on the working of Prajna, the PIM Learning
Portal.
