Pelwatte Dairy empowers local farmers
Pelwatte
Dairy Industries Ltd, a leading manufacturer of dairy products which
uses milk from local sources, has supported local dairy farmers for many
years. Full cream milk powder, butter, yoghurt and ice cream are
produced at Pelwatte Dairy's ISO 22000: 2005 world food safety certified
factory in Buttala.Chairman Ariyaseela Wickramanayake said, "Sri Lanka
can be self-sufficient in milk production, and Pelwatte Dairy has
constantly lobbied to take that step. Our dairy farmers spread around
the island produce some of the finest fresh milk in the world and we
need to support their industry by purchasing this milk instead of
relying on imports."
Pelwatte Dairy supports about 25,000 farmers and their families.
Around 150,000-200,000 litres of milk are collected per day at
collections points in close proximity to dairy farming communities,
before being transported to the Pelwatte Dairy factory. Stringent
quality control measures are in place throughout the entire milk
collection process.
Pelwatte full cream milk powder is produced using only locally
sourced fresh milk from dairy farmers spread across the Eastern, Uva and
Central provinces. The freshness of the milk powder is assured not
merely by the standards adhered to at the production facility, but also
by the fact that milk powder is produced within 24 hours of collection.
All Pelwatte dairy products are 100% natural, with no additives,
chemicals or preservatives added to any of the wide range. Freshly
collected milk is also used to produce butter, sterilised milk, yoghurt
and ice-cream. The company also offers bulk purchases to the hotels and
bakery sectors.
Director Marketing, Pelwatte Dairy, Akmal Wickramanayake said, "Pelwatte
Dairy products are known for their quality and goodness. We have won the
confidence of consumers not only because of the standards we follow but
also due to the fact that we are a locally based company, using local
produce that is safe and healthy." |
