Keheliya’s former staffer wanted for assault

Pallekele police are investigating an incident where a former co-ordinating secretary to former Minister Keheliya Rambukwella is alleged to have assaulted a manager of a laundry in Nakkaranpotha, Kandy, fired threatening shots using his pistol, Friday evening.

According to the police, the incident had occurred following an argument the 19- year-old son of the co-ordinating secretary had had with the manager of the laundry over a delay in delivering some laundered clothes. Responding to a call from his son, the co-ordinating secretary had assaulted the laundry manager using a pistol, and later fired at the ground before fleeing the area.

Hennadige Karunaratna, the laundry manager who sustained injuries in the assault has been admitted to the Kandy General Hospital.

The son surrendered to the Pallekele police yesterday and the police are searching for the co-ordinating secretary who had fled the area after the assault.
