Devapathiraja girls take sweet revenge
Forced to be satisfied with the runner-up slot last year,
Devapathiraja College’s girls returned with a vengeance to bag the
all-island Under-19 inter school cricket trophy by beating the defending
champions Anula Vidyalaya in the final played this week at Thurstan
College ground in Colombo.

The Devapathiraja College team comprising Iresha Chathurani
(captain), Pooja Rashmi, Ranjana, Kavindi Parami Mahinsala,
Sathya Sandeepani, Nilakshana Sandamini, Kaveesha Dilhari,
Umasha Thimeshani, Sulesha Sathsarani, Shikari Nuwantha,
Teleshiya Chathurangi, Imesha Dulani, Sachini Nisansala,
Shani Madhushanki, Asekala Machuwanthi, Raveesha Shamindri,

Vijayabahu MV Okkampitiya won the third place when they beat fancied
Gothami Balika Vidyalaya by nine runs in the consolation final.
Anula won the toss and electing to bat were bowled out for 99 in 30
overs as Amasha Dilshani scored 38 and Teleshiya Chathurangi took three
wickets for 16 runs.
Devapathiraja in reply reached the target for the loss of just three
wickets in 16.5 overs as Kavindi Mahinsala smacked an unbeaten 53 in 49
balls with two sixes and eight fours. She was adjudicated the player of
the final while Amasha Dilshani (Anula) and Teleshiya Chathurangi (Devapathiraja)
took away awards for best batsman and bowler respectively.
Harshitha Dissanayake of Anula was adjudged player of the tournament.
Kithsiri Liyanagamage the president of the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket
Association and principal of Ananda College was the chief guest at the
prize giving.
