Gateway College Colombo continued its rise in the youth sporting
arena as they pocketted the Under 15 title at the inter-International
Schools football tournament organized by the Royal Institute by beating
Lyceum College Panadura 4-1 in the championship final on the January 30
at Cooray Park. Gateway's players were a cut above the rest as they
dished out a superior brand of football to beat teams like Lyceum
Wattala, Lyceum Panadura and Elizabeth Moir School in the group stage.
In the quarter finals they routed CIS Kandy 6-0, and then went on to
beat CIS Colombo 2-0 in the semi-final. The Player of the Tournament
prize was awarded to Gateway's captain Jehan Malik, who top scored in
the tournament with seven goals, including a well struck hat-trick in
the final. The Goal Keeper of the tournament prize went to Dwayne De
Mel, the vice-captain of the Gateway team.The champion Gateway College
team comprised Dulaj Wijewardena, Isa Fahim, Samunu Kaggodaarachchi,
Mohammed Shabbir, Thinula de Silva, Areeb Atheek, Imad Imran, Atheek
Eusoof, Ayash Dilshard, Thaqi Riza, Binitha Chandrasena, Sahan
Hettiarachchi, Zumrie Zulfikar, Umar Fazeer, Ikraam Fazal and Malidu
