UNP to revamp party hierarchy
UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe will launch a complete reorganisation
aimed at providing more and more opportunities and experience to the
second and third rungs of the UNP in its future interest and challenges
it would face, party sources said.
In the present context, it is incumbent on the party to consolidate
itself, while as the Government it is called upon to give effect to the
policies placed before the people. The party’s second rung leaders have
since been appointed ministers and accordingly they would qualify
themselves for the party leadership depending on the progress and
success they would achieve. A third rung is under way, according to
these sources. The responsibility of organising the ‘Let us have a New
Sri Lanka’ campaign had been entrusted to it. Its performance far
outweighed the Hyde Park rally organised by the UPFA’s first rung and
this has helped it deserve the accolades of the party.
Changes in the party hierarchy are aimed at providing more
opportunities to youth leaders, the sources said.
A new party constitution will also be introduced following the
party’s 70th anniversary in September this year, a senior party official
said. |
