PLC, has partnered with Google to introduce another 'first' for the
e-commerce industry.
Modelled on the successful online shopping festivals such as the
Great Online Shopping festival in India and Singapore, a new online
shopping site megapola was launched on March 21 under the patronage of
Google and presents a host of great offers on households and consumer
brands for the Avurudu season. It ends today.
CEO, wOw.lk, Sheyantha Abeykoon said, "We hope to attract 1-2 million
customers to this site as retail business market is Rs. 300 billion at
present. Our initiative to partner with Google in e-commerce industry
will pave way for growth which has huge potential."
"The online market grows 100 percent on yearly basis and now what we
see is more of a shopping experience.
There are 25 percent smartphones penetration and there is tremendous
scope for growth. The megapola site is a milestone in the local industry
which will boost growth in online shopping," he said.
Sri Lanka records 30 percent internet users and this platform will
facilitate the growth of online shopping experience.
"We are excited about this partnership with Google. Digital
penetration is growing exponentially in Sri Lanka and we hope that the
virtual pola will introduce people in suburban and rural areas to the
benefit of shopping online.
The platform we have created together with Google, is a great place
for consumers to sample products and interact with brands," Abeykoon
