Malwatta Maha Sangha to call on new Asgiriya Maha Nayake

Following the traditions of the Asgiriya and Malwatta Chapters of the Siyam Nikaya with regard to the appointment of the Mahanayake Thera of each Chapter, the Anu Nayakes of the Malwatta Chapter and Maha Sangha of the Karaka Sangha Sabha of the Malwatta Chapter will officially call on the newly appointed Maha Nayake of the Asgiriya Chapter, Most Ven. Varakagoda Gnanarathana Thera today at the Asgiriya Maha Vihara, Kandy.

Traditionally the Malwatta and Asgiriya Chapter Maha Vihara officially inform each other about the appointment of a new Maha Nayake of the Chapter.

The Anu Nayake of the Asgiriya Chapter Vendaruwe Upali Thera and the Karaka Sangha Sabha of the Malwatta Maha Viharaya yesterday visited the Malwatta Maha Vihara, and officially informed the Malwatta Chapter about the appointment of Ven. Varakagoda Gnanarathana Thera as the Maha Nayake of the Asgiriya Chapter.

Accordingly, the Maha Sangha of the Malwatta Maha Vihara are due to call on the newly appointed Maha Nayaka Thera of the Asgiriya chapter.

Ven. Varakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Thera, the Anu Nayake of the Asgiriya chapter was appointed as the 22nd Mahanayake of the Chapter on Friday. He was the Chief Incumbent of the Badulu, Muthiyangana Raja Maha Vihara.

The post of Mahanayake of the Asgiriya Chapter fell vacant following the demise of the Most Venerable Udugama Sri Buddharakkitha Maha Nayake Thera.
